Mid-May Check-In: What’s Moving You?

How Are You Really Doing?

Hi Reader

We’re halfway through May—and if you're anything like many of the women I serve, you're probably still in “go-mode. ”Whether you spent Mother’s Day surrounded by family or quietly avoiding all obligations (both are valid!), I want to ask you a simple but important question: How are you doing… from the inside out? Not just your workouts. Not just your meals. But you—your spirit, your energy, your mood, your stress levels.

A Personal Story from This Week

This Mother’s Day, I intentionally chose rest. I spent the morning with my mom in her home, then came back and did something rare: I stayed home… and slowed down. My 7-year-old, puzzled, asked me: “Mommy, why aren’t you working today?” As he lovingly washed my car!, I smiled and said: “It’s Mother’s Day. Today, I’m taking the day off. ”It wasn’t easy. The week before, my 85-year-old client told me:

“Any woman who works outside the home deserves the
Monday after
Mother’s Day off too. Don’t schedule anyone. Don’t do busy work.”

I moved a client. I went to a Barre fitness class. I stayed home. When the day started to feel busy, I paused. I breathed. I reminded myself that I deserve this.

Why This Matters

Chronic stress affects more than just your mood. It can increase cortisol, disrupt your sleep, slow your recovery, lead to emotional eating, and block progress in both fitness and healing. It shows up in tight hips, stiff backs, and short tempers. And yet, so many women—the caregivers, teachers, nurses, moms—keep going anyway. But when we never make space to reset, we put our own health at risk.

A Mid-May Reflection

Before your week fills up again, take a few mindful minutes to ask yourself:

  1. What is one small way I’ve cared for myself this month?
  2. Where in my body am I holding tension—and how can I gently release it today?
  3. If I gave myself permission to rest, what would that look like?

I hope this gives you the nudge to slow down, even for a moment. You don’t have to earn your rest. You deserve it—right now.
