My Birthday Week Taught Me Something About Recovery

Hi Reader

It has been a minute since I have sent an email. I know and I am sorry but this has truly been a season of "Let Go. Let God. Stop worrying about others expectations." So I scaled back a bit and now I am here to share that I had a birthday on Tuesday, and I spent it exactly how I needed to. πŸ–€ Cheers to 48 years!

I started heavy. Heavy squats, heavy deadlifts, walking lunges, farmer's carries, and my first sled push (thanks brother for encouraging me). Then I did something I don't always do for myself, I invested in a deep tissue massage with assisted stretching as my birthday gift.

And wow. The difference was immediate.

That massage wasn't just recovery. It was nutrition. It was stress management. It was me saying yes to my body's needs. If you've been curious about assisted stretching, I'm not plugging my services because I have to. I'm telling you because I just experienced it and it absolutely works. My body bounced back from that heavy workout in a way that wouldn't have happened without it.

The rest of my birthday week? I rested. No extra plans. No trying to do it all or fit anyone else's agenda. Just work when I needed to, then sitting with family, eating clean (hello falafel Greek salad), and letting my body recover.

That's lifestyle medicine right there, movement, nutrition, stress management, relationships, and rest all in one week. πŸ–€

What's Coming

Over this month I've been rebuilding the mobility and core strength program into something even better. Meet Foundation at 40+ a six-week joint mobility and strength program designed specifically for women like us over 40 entering perimenopause.

If you're waking up stiff, carrying tension in your neck and shoulders, noticing your core feels weaker, or wondering why that extra weight gain showed up, this program was built for you. It was built for US! (Because I turned 48 this week!)

Launch is coming very soon. Stay tuned.

I'm also working behind the scenes with a new company to help scale the digital side of Black Star. I've learned this year that asking for help, receiving it, and collaborating with others is not weakness β€” it's strategy. Big things are coming and I wanted you to know we're building something real.

A gentle reminder

You didn’t quit because something is wrong with you.
You may have just done too much, too fast.

Train smart.
Train intentionally.

Until next week, remember this, your body doesn't need you to do it all. It needs you to do what matters. Rest is medicine too.

With care,
Natasha
