Hey Reader,
Happy Motivation Monday! And as we honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let’s draw inspiration from one of his powerful quotes:
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
What a beautiful reminder to keep moving forward, even when the path isn’t clear. Whether it’s advocating for justice or taking control of your health, it’s about consistency, discipline, and having faith in the process.

Turning Dreams into Action
We’re a couple of weeks into 2025, and maybe you’ve hit some bumps along the way with your health and wellness goals. That’s okay—progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about small, intentional steps toward your bigger picture.
When I work with my clients, I remind them of one important truth: You don’t need motivation to succeed—you need discipline. Motivation is fleeting. Discipline becomes a habit, and habits lead to change.
Why Goals Need a “Why”
The biggest mistake most people make when setting goals? They skip the “why.” Without it, goals are just tasks on a list.
Take a moment today to reflect:
- Why do I want to feel healthier?
- Why is this change important to me?
- How will my life improve when I achieve this goal?
For me, my "why" is deeply personal:
- Preventing a family history of high blood pressure and stroke.
- Healing my gut to manage my autoimmune alopecia.
When I feel weak, I remind myself of these reasons. That’s what gets me back on track after a missed workout or an indulgent meal.
Weekly Tip: Black Star Goals Template
Here’s a tool I shared with my clients to guide their goal-setting. Use it to get clear, stay accountable, and reconnect with your purpose:
1️⃣ Overall 2025 Long-Term Health Goal (6–9 months)
2️⃣ Smaller Goals to Reach My Overall Goal (1–3 months)
3️⃣ I Am Doing This Because (your BIG why!)
4️⃣ People Who Will Hold Me Accountable
5️⃣ The Most Challenging Part About This Journey Will Be...
6️⃣ How I Plan to Overcome These Challenges
7️⃣ A Letter to Myself When I Feel Weak
Print it. Fill it out. And don’t forget to look back at it when life gets tough.
A Final Thought for MLK Day
Dr. King dreamed of a united, just world, and his legacy reminds us to strive for greatness not just for ourselves, but for our communities. Your health journey is no different. When you prioritize your wellness, you show up better for your family, friends, and everyone around you.
As you start this week, take one step toward your goals. It doesn’t have to be big—just intentional.
